Castings

Castings

We manufacture a wide range of static sand castings, which thanks to the single-part character of production creates a wide product portfolio. Standard castings for machinery are cast from construction steels and weathering steel materials with increased mechanical values. A further large group comprises of castings from alloyed steels for specialist uses, which accounts for up to 40% of our production. In this way our foundry is bound up with the traditions of manufacturing of years gone by. We have great manufacturing flexibility thanks to our use of induction and arc furnaces and the great range in casting sizes from 100 mm up to 4000 mm. The large number of graded frame sizes and various sizes of furnace aggregate (2x5t, 2x0.5t and 1x1t) enables us at the foundry to take orders for single, low-weight parts using special materials.

Centrifugal casting:

Single-layer:

The products we manufacture using centrifugal casting come in 37 graded sizes and lengths – according to the customers´ wishes. Besides the traditional areas of use, we recommend these products as suitable for use as semi-finished products for cylindrically shaped parts. The most common reason for choosing a centrifugally cast semi-finished product is the unavailability of the required material or the large savings in tooling the internal diameter. Thanks to its cleanliness and homogeneity, centrifugally cast tubing is the same standard as compression moulded materials.

Double-layer:

The use of centrifugal castings as an effective manufacturing technology for cylindrical shapes is enriched by the possibility of casting multi-layer materials. The result is a product with the properties of its external layer differing markedly from its inner layer. The divergent properties of these so-called ‘bi-metallic’ materials are used in special cases.

Parameters of centrifugally cast tubing

Minimum outer diameter: 71 mm
Maximum outer diameter: 406 mm
Minimum inner diameter: 50 mm
Minimum wall thickness: 6 mm
Maximum length: 4000 mm
Tolerance: + 2 mm mm outer diameter – 2 mm inner diameter

Commonest examples of use:

  • Piping systems in the chemical and petrochemical industry
  • Annealing production lines for rolling mills
  • Industrial furnaces for ‘TZ’ (cylinders and radiating pipes)
  • Glass industry
  • Jets
  • Circular valve seat inserts
  • Semi-finished products for cylindrical parts
  • Crushing cylinders
  • Pump packing ring

SHAW method:

Castings from 5 – 250 kg are manufactured using ceramic moulds. Castings manufactured by the SHAW method, and the improved licence method UNICAST, into ceramic moulds are intended for specialist use for high precision parts and parts with complex forms. These castings are used when classic foundry methods prove unsuitable.

Models:

Models for casting always come at the beginning of the manufacturing process and form a natural part of what the foundry offers. The model shop primarily produces wooden models for their own use as well as for external partners. Production centres on free standing models or models attached to boards.

Maximum model dimensions:

weight: 3 000 mm
width: 3 000 mm
depth: 5 000 mm
diameter: 2 000 mm

Types of models:

  • wooden
  • epoxy resin
  • metal
  • combination

Additional services:

  • model repair
  • model storage
  • wax parts for models
  • complex forms using CNC
